Siemens Healthineers Appoints New Americas Chief

Siemens Healthineers has named João Seabra as president and head of the Americas, a significant leadership appointment disclosed just before the company cut its full-year sales outlook. The decision places Seabra in charge of the German company’s largest market at a time when it is grappling with persistent challenges in its diagnostics division.

Seabra, a veteran of the company, will officially step into the role on October 1. He is relocating from Portugal to the United States to assume the position, which carries responsibility for a major portion of the company’s global revenue. He replaces John Kowal, who had held the post since April 2025.

A long-time employee, Seabra first joined Siemens Healthineers in 2001. He brings extensive international experience to the role, having led the company’s operations in Western Europe and West Africa from 2015 to 2018. He most recently served as head of enterprise services, a position he held since 2018.

During his tenure leading enterprise services, Seabra scaled the business and quadrupled its revenue. Darleen Caron, the company’s chief human resources officer, praised his performance in a statement. She noted that under his leadership, the organization created “value partnerships of increasing scope and impact with key customers.”

Management Overhaul Continues

This appointment is the latest development in a series of executive rotations that began in May. The company previously described these moves as a sweeping generational change affecting its top ranks. The reshuffle has already installed new leaders in diagnostic imaging, advanced therapies, and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, alongside the appointment of a new chief technology officer.

The leadership transition coincides with a difficult period for the company’s diagnostics unit. The rapid succession of leadership moves suggests an urgent effort to stabilize operations amidst market volatility, specifically regarding the turnover in key regional roles. By rotating established executives like Seabra into critical regions, the company likely hopes to apply proven internal strategies to external market pressures without seeking outside talent.

Seabra succeeds Kowal, who stepped into the role earlier this year following the departure of David Pacitti. Pacitti left the position to become the chief executive of Avanos. Kowal, who had previously served as president of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers’ Varian unit, announced on LinkedIn that he was stepping down to focus on “personal passions” in the short term.

Diagnostics Struggles Impact Forecast

The executive changes arrive as the company faces headwinds in its diagnostics division. The business has struggled to maintain momentum, issues that were highlighted in the company’s third-quarter results reported on Friday. The performance in this segment has forced a reassessment of the company’s financial expectations for the remainder of the year.

CEO Bernhard Montag pointed to structural changes in the China market as a primary factor behind the sales decline. The Chinese market has undergone shifts that have created hurdles for international medical technology firms, impacting growth trajectories.
